Daniel's First Field Trip of Kindergarten

Today was the first time Daniel ever went on a field trip through school. I was able to volunteer to go too, since I didn't have to work. We went to the Stillwater Prairie Reserve. It's a really beautiful place near Covington, OH. Very pretty, especially at this time of year. What I didn't realize about this field trip before I volunteered, was that it would involve slippery rocks, lots of water, kindergarteners, and BUGS and LEECHES! Eeeewwww!!!! We started off by putting large water waders on. Quite a fun task with little children. But, we made it through. Then, we walked down a little pathway with a bit of an incline to the Stillwater River. The premise of this field trip was to get the children into the water and pick up rocks to look for "bug wildlife" if you will. They put big pictures of what we could "find" in the water, including LEECHES! Gross! Well, the kindergarten teachers were taking bets on who would be the first to "fall" into the water. I secretly had my own personal suspicions. Well, I was right! Daniel slipped on a rock he was standing on, and fell into the water first. Luckily, he put his hands out in front of him, and caught himself. He was pretty splashed, and would not let me take his picture because he was more than annoyed. Needless to say, we did find TONS of bugs. Which apparently is a good thing. At least to the Naturalists we were with. The more things we found, the cleaner the water was. I guess that is a good thing! LOL! We found a crawfish, a leech (gross), and water spiders. Daniel found the bug of bugs (of course!) He found a dragonfly something-or-other. It is big and black, and they nicknamed it a "tickle bug". Needless to say, I took their word for it. Daniel did too! LOL! Our naturalists were really nice. Their names were "Junebug" and "Buzzin' Bee". How appropriate!!!! All in all, it was a fun day. The scenery was really beautiful, even the river.
This is our Naturalist "Bee" showing the kids some bugs she located.
This is Daniel's newest bestest buddy, Seth. What cutie pies they were, and what fun they had together today!
