Recently, my friend Buffy asked me if I would be interested in donating some product for Close to My Heart for a worthy cause. It would be for a quarter auction that they were holding for the local Piqua High School Softball team. Her friend Donna's daughter, Morgan is a Senior and plays on the team. These girls are going to tournaments in Florida in the spring, and need to raise money to pay for a portion of their trip. I agreed, and donated several items for them to auction off. She asked me if I would be interested in attending the auction. Have you ever been to a quarter auction? It's a lot of fun. You purchase a paddle, usually a dollar each, at the door. All of the proceeds usually benefit a charitable cause of some kind. In this case, girls softball. Then, you bring your rolls of quarters, and bid on items up for grabs. So, depending upon the retail value of the items, the bids range in from 25 cents to $1.00 maximum. If you're interested in "bidding" you put your money in the bucket, raise your paddle, and hope they pull your number. If you aren't interested, you aren't obligated to put any money in. However, if this is the case, and they do call your number, you just shout, "No Bid" and they pull another number. So, off Buffy & I went for an afternoon of fun!

You'll notice that I picked my number and used #27, since it is our wedding anniversary, which is coming up in a few weeks. The last quarter auction I went to, I chose this same number and came home the lucky winner of a few great prizes! So, this time, I did the same. You'll see here that Buffy is anxiously awaiting her number to be called, #128 which is a combination of her 2 boys' birthdays. She looks a bit irritated, because there was this lady a few tables away from us who had 5 paddles for every bid, and had won like 3-4 times IN A ROW! That lady was wild! Anyhow, they did call my number a few times, and I had a "NO Bid" response. But, in the end, they called my number 2 more times, and I won a prize! Some lovely Pampered Chef, and another gift I won't mention here, because, well, it's a Christmas gift for someone! Hee hee! Plus, there is a hillarious story associated with that, but I think you'd have to have been there to appreciate the significance! Below, you'll find what your face looks like when you spend an afternoon using 2 rolls of quarters, $5 in 50/50 drawings, and $5 in door prize money and come out completely empty handed. OH! Not to mention the yummy cupcakes you helped to purchase for a good cause of girls softball! On the other hand, you'll see the last picture, what one looks like when you spend less than th

at amount in quarters, and minus the cupcakes, and come out a WINNER of 2 lovely prizes! If you ever get a chance to go, you should go. Quarter auctions benefit many local worthy charities. PLUS, it's fun to go and hang out with a bunch of your girlfriends, bid on some cool things, and hopefully WIN something great you had your eye on!
On a separate note......from yesterday's blog about the snow......nothing really stuck on the ground in the way of accumulation. It was just wet, cold, and dreary. And, did I mention WET and COLD? Hee! But, today it's less wet, still COLD, and earlier, when I went to pick Jackson up from a sleepover birthday party, it was snowing, but nothing that was sticking. Just a bit of a foreboding of what could be yet to come for us in the coming weeks!
