Stormy Weather

The day began hot, humid and sticky. It was a bit oppressive, but, it was cloudy and I figured it would rain, and maybe we'd get a bit of relief from the heat and humidness that we'd had for over a better part of a week. As afternoon progressed, the skies kept getting more gray, and the wind started to pick up. After a couple of hours, the skies were completely darkened, and the wind .was blowing so hard, it was like nothing I had ever seen around here. This continued on for most of the afternoon and evening time. In the end, it was reported that our area had between 66-78 mph winds. It stormed and rained, as well. The weather and news reports would later say that the storm was so bad that it was classified as a Category 1 Hurricane!!!! Over 278 schools started out with delays, but ended up being closed on Monday, and over 225,000 homes were without power. In fact, many of them are still without power and aren't expected to regain power until Wednesday and possibly not until later than that. Geez! This picture is from part of the aftermath on our property. These trees line our driveway, and the winds were so strong, they uprooted this tree by it's roots. We still haven't had a chance to fix this problem. The following picture is from the Tipp City Park where we like to go and play sometimes. In fact, we had just been there a few days before looking for the beloved Buckeye nuts!!! The park had a lot of damge. Many trees were fallen down, and it was going to take a lot of work to get it back to the way it was. However, just like in true Ohio Buckeye fashion, the Mighty Buckeye Trees remained intact and unscathed from the storm. Just goes to show you, no matter what you throw at them, a true Buckeye can handle it!!!!

We have had some crazy stormy weather too this monsoon season. It always amazes me what the wind can do.
